Engine and Transmission The estate uses the same engine that powers its saloon sibling -- a super-charged four-cylinder engine that puts out kW and Nm, with power getting to the wheels via a five-speed automatic with paddle shifts on the steering wheel. Exterior The giant German marque has made sure to hold on to the distinctive Mercedes-Benz characteristics with C estate, whilst adding modern elements.
The distinctive chrome three-louvered radiator grille and big centred badge plus chrome highlights on the bumpers, wings and doors help to retain the classic Merc presence. The body coloured bumpers, polished aluminium roof rails, an electric glass sun-roof and 17 inch, five twin-spoke, light-alloy wheels give it an edgy modern feel.
The side profile highlights a creased waistline following the long rise from the bonnet, over the windscreen then gently down to the top of the tail gate where it drops abruptly and folds into a short rear overhang.
Mercedes-Benz C-Class Saloon (2000 - 2007) review
The front wheels being pushed right to the front also give the car an athletic, purposeful stance. Interior Inside, the C has a sporty flavour with black floor mats and dash, contrasting with the door panels and arm rests in reef grey. As always, quality and attention to detail is easily evident.
Safety Front airbags, window bags and side bags for the driver and front passenger plus window bags and side bags for the side passenger, together with Adaptive Brake Regulation with hillstart assist, ESP, ABS, crash-responsive active head restraints for front seats and a tyre pressure loss warning system, completes the substantial safety package. Both cars are great in their own ways — the C63 is a performance powerhouse and the estate is a comfortable, refined family wagon — and a damn good one at that.
The workmanship and quality of the interior as always is first class. Initially the seats felt a little small but I soon sunk into them and felt completely supported. Power, although not mind numbingly raucous, was sufficient enough to be able to merge and overtake without a trickle of fear that you might get rammed.
The one gripe I had was the legroom in the back seats. Even with the front seats forward, the back is only really big enough for two mid-sized teenages. Halligan says I am a big fan of the current C-Class. The C wagon reaffirms this opinion once again. It's a great package and it just feels right when you drive it.
It has ample power for its target market. Style, presence, quality and performance are all excellent and I only have one criticism of the C-Class in general. It needs just an extra couple of centimetres between the front and rear seats. While I am not a fan of models growing through their life cycle, I think the C can afford to do so. At the moment it is still virtually the same size as the first generation I parked it beside in the family garage.
Start-up families shopping in this price bracket should consider this car. Don't do the normal thing and buy a mid-size 4x4 without first looking at one of these. Do your sums and consider cost of ownership and depreciation. Service costs, tyres and depreciation on most mid 4x4 is ludicrous especially in this price range. Range and Specs Have you considered? Mercedes-Benz C-Class cars for sale.Only with the RAC. Delivering an opinion on a Mercedes C-Class saloon is easy. Lop the tail end off and call it a Sports Coupe and you're dealing with a whole different kettle of kippers. Whilst some lauded it as a stylish and affordable Mercedes, the spiritual heir to the VW Corrado and so on, there were others who sniffily deride it as neither Sporting nor a Coupe, offering a lot less than an equivalent C-Class saloon.
That's perhaps a little harsh. The Sports Coupe has a lot going for it. Track down a decent used model and you'll soon see why. Although it hasn't been around for too long, the C-Class Sports Coupe has already amassed a fair bit of history.
When it was first launched in Maythe range consisted of a bhp 2. The bhp CCDi diesel model arrived the subsequent month, heralding a new diesel coupe sector into which manufacturers like Peugeot and Citroen quickly jumped. This line up lasted just over a year whereupon Mercedes adopted Twinpulse technology for its four cylinder petrol engines. Under the bonnet all three engines were remarkably similar 1.
In early Mercedes opened the order books on the bhp C V6 model. A series of revisions were brought in across the C-Class line-up in Spring and the Sports Coupe got in on the act. The suspension pick up points were tweaked for better driver feedback, the width of the track grew by 18mm and the steering was made a good deal more direct. Clear lens headlamps, a re-shaped bumper and a radiator grille with three louvers were the main external changes.
In the summer ofa series of new models were introduced to the range. An entry-level C was perhaps the biggest shock.Gl75 msi
It arrived packing a bhp non-supercharged 1. The CK was axed in favour of a C with 2. No, those rakish looks really don't lie: this is a coupe, not a premium hatchback: the Stuttgart design department will have to try again on that score.
And as a two-door, more dynamic-looking C-class saloon or an entry-level CLK wannabe, it makes a lot of sense.
It's smaller than a CLK of course - but you won't really notice any difference unless you habitually sit in the back. Like the CLK, this car sits on a chassis borrowed from the new generation C-class saloon - which means that Mercedes has had to do what else it can to distance the two products.
For a start, the Sports Coupe won't get V6 power or an AMG-engined derivative - though you get the feeling that this might change if the market demands it. There won't be a Sports Coupe convertible either - the CLK really will get to keep that market niche to itself.
Not that Mercedes wants to totally ignore the affordable realms of the open-air coupe market. Buyers can also specify Panoramic twin glass sunroofs which extend from the windscreen to the top of the tailgate and slide electrically backwards and forwards. The designers hope that this will create a feeling of light and space - though not too much.
To avoid creation of a greenhouse, the panels are smoked and two electrically operated roller blinds can slide across the glass to keep the cabin cool. When you do open up to let in the sunshine, you'll find that the aperture is a third larger than you'd get with a standard sunroof. So far so good. It's just overmiles, 1 owner and care for This is my 3rd Benz and its a pleasure to drive.
Traded in my Jaguar S-type for this and I have no regrets. I will say the Jaguar was a better looking car, but that's it. I'll update more as I add more miles My car has been with me since brand new, now going onmiles and counting. Issues have been catalytic converter under warrantyfront headlights, steering linkage break, serpentine belt replacement atmilesleather interior cracking, faux leather on shift knob coming off, CD changer jamming, blower fuse melting and compressor breaking, and small ghosting on console display.
Performance is decent for a car with hp. Gas mileage could be better but I drive like a maniac with quick acceleration so no fault of the car. I'm pretty satisfied with the car and feel fortunate I don't have the issues so many others have. This car was manufactured in Brazil. Been a very good car close to K miles now. The only failures have been the hood struts, pano roof, and the multi function display.
Both hood struts and MFD are easily fixed by anyone with the slightest mechanical skill. Pano roof is basically unfixable because of the significant cost and lack of utility anyway. Handles very well had has adequate power. A bit slow off of the line though. Very practical as it is a hatchback and storage is generous. Rear seats fold down which gives even more cargo room. Get one used with the leather interior and the Bose sound system sound is excellent.
Avoid the pano roof if possible. I give it an A. I originally wanted the m. E but my husband said that we would be spending a lot more money on gas. So he got me the c and I have to say that I love this car we bought it used with 98, miles on it.2009 Mercedes-Benz C 200 Kompressor Elegance Start-Up and Full Vehicle Tour
It has been very reliable drives great, and I look forward to taking long trips in it. I previously owned a BMW i and I thought that that was the best car ever, but I have to say I like this one just as much. It has that luxury and sports car look to it, the interior is excellent and very comfortable.Only with the RAC.
There's an established pecking order in the executive car arena that Mercedes did a great deal to disrupt when they launched the C-class in September Up until this point, you bought a BMW 3 Series if you wanted any entertainment behind the wheel, whilst the C-class had traditionally performed a more staid supporting role, wooing the customer who preferred the low-key image.
With its sleek styling and sparkling chassis the second-generation C-class upset that particular apfel-kart with some verve. As well as a fundamental change in approach, a new approach to interior styling was ushered in, the conservative blandness of the old car replaced by some adventurous design touches. One thing didn't change. As a used prospect, the C-class is still an almost unimpeachable investment.
Here's what to look for. It's hard to believe the previous generation C-class had been around sinceitself replacing the fondly remembered series. In truth, the first generation C-class models never really captured the public's imagination the way the did, and this was something Mercedes were keen to rectify when they designed the second-generation range.
To whit the anonymous evolutionary styling of the C-class was replaced by lines which resembled a scaled down S-class - itself a car that masks its bulk superbly.
The BMW 3 Series instantly looked rather staid. Sticking the corporate neck out has paid dividends for Mercedes. Although the C-class still couldn't approach the sales figures of the 3 Series, it nevertheless opened a younger market sector up for the Stuttgart company and paved the way for the introduction of the Sport Coupe models which again knocked the three-door versions of BMW's Compact into a cocked hat in terms of styling.News da mostrare
Estate versions followed in with the bhp C32 AMG supersaloon also swelling the ranks. In Autumnall four cylinder engines were replaced with greener, more frugal 'Twinpulse' units and a Classic SE specification was added. A facelifted model then arrived in with clear lens headlamps and a restyled grille.
The C model was replaced by a bhp CK. The C-class engine range was given a thorough overhaul in the summer of The CK was replaced by a C with a V6 bhp powerplant instead of the supercharged 1. Above that, a bhp C was introduced and the range-topping C became a C with bhp.
An all new C-Class arrived in summer At first glance, it's hard to decide exactly what size this car is, so cleverly packaged are the lines clearly derived from the larger S-class. You discover pretty quickly mind you, after taking a seat in the back of the saloons and estates.
There's supposed to be more space but it doesn't feel like it. For rear seat passengers, any Mondeo, Vectra or Peugeot would be preferable. Judged by any other criteria however, the Mercedes wins hands down. All the saloon variants are imported, not from Germany, but from South Africa so forget getting a cheap parallel import from the small ads. Mercedes promise perfect build quality from this new plant - but then they promised that when the first M-class models trickled over from Alabama.
Early impressions look good, however. A third of all buyers tend to choose the estate version, which offers a useful, if hardly cavernous, capacity of litres with the seats up or 1, litres with them folded own.
Look beyond the sleek lines and the first thing you need to know is that this is the safest car in its class. That simple fact has far-reaching effects, particularly when it comes to weight.Buy with confidence; all Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned vehicles come with a factory backed warranty, point safety check, comprehensive service history and 24hr roadside assistance.
It could be the kiss of death for V8s and other fuel guzzling behemoths, with the focus switching to smaller, more economical vehicles — well, more economical ones at least. In this context cars like the Mercedes-Benz C Kompressor could eventually become more desirable than more fancied and powerful siblings. The C-Class is Benz's best selling model and is available with a range of engines, starting with two 1. It's a difficult decision, but after spending a week behind he wheel of the four cylinder C Kompressor, you begin to wonder whether a larger engine is really necessary, given the car's performance and amazing economy.
Without nursing the Benz in any way, we were able to get km plus out of a single tank of fuel, with the trip computer showing a longterm average of 9. The C Kompressor's 1. The 1. Although the auto features comfort and sports settings, the ability to shift manually gives the driver more control. It is particularly good for getting the car mobile more quickly, with a quick flick left or right to change gears — and no clutch to worry about. Given the car's size and weight, performance is admirable, with very low levels of interior noise even when working hard.
The ride is skewed towards touring and feels a little soft at times, but firms up nicely in corners. It is well balanced and easily controlled, with electronic stability control to ensure things do not get out of hand. The new C-Class has a more aggressive look, with a deeper front air intake and sporty side skirts.
Inside the it features a new cockpit design with simplified chronometer style dash and seat design varies from model to model. We would have liked to have seen more cupholders, with at least one that accommodates a sports drink bottle. Changing between AM and FM radio stations should not be that difficult and be sure to stand clear when you pop the boot — it comes up with a bang. In terms of safety the car has front, side and window airbags and scores a full five stars in European crash tests.
You may have head about the innovative, scratch- resistant paintwork that is based on nano-technology. Benz reckons it gives the car a brighter sheen and makes it three times more resistant to scratching, so you can put it through the carwash with confidence.

I have the rarer 6 speed estate version. Absolutely amazing drive. Very smooth the 6 gear saves a lot of fuel was very surprised at how good it is on fuel. The interior is very comfortable, sporty trim, and the CD Radio has a great sound too. The engine is very quite on tick over has a nice throaty roar when you put your toe down.

I bought an '99 Kompressor because I don't like the oval headlights on the new model. The car is very comfy, handles really well, and has nice features. The gas mileage is phenomenal. What I don't like is that there are unpredictable temporary problems getting electrical features to work properly, if at all.
Also, the hood lifts at least a half inch when there are heavy winds in just the right direction and an oncoming semi blows by. Totally dependable and nothing has broken touch wood so far. I think I probably get around 25 miles to the gallon - but it is local driving. Sometimes can get up to 30 on a long drive.
